Learn XR making from the people already teaching it well. Build the practice, research rhythm, and tested work together—one small prototype at a time.

We do not copy excellent courses. We link to their original teaching and add the practical system that helps a learner turn it into real, documented XR work.

Start here

Five sessions, not fifty tabs.

  1. Open the Unity VR route.

    Create a Unity ID and begin Create with VR with its setup lesson.

  2. Learn only the controls you need.

    If the editor is unfamiliar, use Unity Essentials for basic navigation, then return to the XR task.

  3. Make one visible XR action.

    Create a simple scene, place one readable world-space element, and test it in the simulator or on a device.

  4. Keep the evidence.

    Save a screenshot, what changed, what you observed, and the original source link.

  5. Choose one next-smallest task.

    Improve readability, add one interaction, or make one build. Do not add a new platform or advanced feature yet.

Follow original XR learning from Unity and other primary providers. Build a real scene while you learn.

Run the lab

Set a clear purpose, choose a manageable tool stack, make decisions, test on real devices, and retain evidence.

Share honestly

Publish what is tested, cite the sources, say what is still being explored, and learn through thoughtful peer feedback.

The method

The part no single XR course gives you.

A simple operating method for an independent maker or small group.

Purpose and workbench

Decide what your lab is for, what you will not do yet, and which device, engine, source list, and notes you actually use.

One small prototype

Work in short cycles. Every cycle has a definition of done, a test, a screenshot, and one decision about what comes next.

Experience quality

Check readability, comfort, accessibility, safety, inclusion, and the respectful handling of data before calling something finished.

Research desk

Watch for material platform changes, record direct sources, and only change a guide or project after review and testing.

Course material stays with its original provider. Availability, pricing, and access can change; check the linked page before starting.

Unity — Create with VR

The main practical Unity VR route: setup, interaction, lighting, optimisation, and a project. Unity currently presents it as a free beginner course.

University of Michigan — XR Apps

A wider view across WebXR, Unity, and Unreal, with privacy, accessibility, ethics, and planning. Coursera currently displays an “Enroll for free” entry point; its access options are set there.

CG Spectrum — Starting an Indie Game Studio

A paid, external founder-oriented course covering studio formation and operations. Use it as an optional business lens; its schedule and pricing are owned by the provider.

Jisc — XR Maturity Toolkit

A structured planning reference for vision, people, content, skills, and infrastructure. Link to its original form; the provider publishes it under CC BY-NC-ND.

XR Association — Developer Guidance

Useful questions around safety and inclusion. Use it alongside original device and platform documentation.

IEEE — XR ethics and accessibility

A reference for bringing ethics, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility into the work from the beginning.

AI-assisted, not AI-dependent

Automate friction. Keep the judgment.

AI can explain a panel, draft a small script, translate an error, compare official release notes, and organise notes. It cannot tell you whether an XR experience is comfortable, whether a headset build really works, or whether a project should be made at all.

  • State the goal before asking for assistance.
  • Inspect the result instead of blindly pasting it in.
  • Run the test yourself and record what happened.

Current without becoming noisy.

XR is monitored daily inside the lab. Public notes are shared only when an original source has a useful, verified effect on this guide or an active project.

Every published update includes an original source, what changed, its effect, and whether it is tested, scheduled for test, or reference only.

Planned, not open yet

Five people. Five independent labs. One shared rhythm.

A future free peer learning circle will bring together up to five people who are each building their own XR practice. Everyone keeps ownership of their own work. There will be no paid access, certificate, job promise, or claim of partnership with any linked provider.

Applications will open only after the guide, a community agreement, a privacy-conscious application, and a clear feedback rhythm are ready.
